Religious Instruction

Religious Instruction
Queensland state schools provide religious instruction in accordance with Chapter 5 of the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 (EGPA) and Part 5 of the Education (General Provisions) Regulations 2006 (EGPR) by making available up to one hour per week for the provision of religious instruction to students (except Prep students) who are members of a faith group that has approval to deliver religious instruction at the school.
Lessons
At Gowrie State School, each class (Year 1 to Year 6) has access to a half hour period of instruction per week. All students (except Prep students) are placed in either religious instruction or other instruction in accordance with information provided on their Application for Student enrolment, unless parents/guardians have provided the school with other written instructions.
The program
The program of Religious Instruction at Gowrie State School is delivered in accordance with Education Queensland Policy as outlined in the policy statement. This is available for perusal at:http://education.qld.gov.au/schools/school-operations/ri-policy-statement.html
Religious Instruction classes are held at the school each Monday between 11.45am and 12.15pm. Ministers and lay people from a number of religions who are accredited representatives conduct these classes.
Currently, there are two choices available.
1.          Anglican, Baptist, Uniting, Lutheran, and Presbyterian and other like Christian faiths are taught within a co-operative arrangement (more than one faith group working together).
2.          Catholics are taught separately in a single (one faith group) arrangement.
Students who are not involved in one of the programs listed are provided with ‘Other Instruction’ in a separate location to the religious instruction delivery. ‘Other Instruction’ includes activities that are part of the National Values Framework, wider reading, or other activities approved by the school principal.
Consent form
Parents are asked on enrolment to choose which of the options they want, fill it out and sign it and return it to school. We need to have a record for each student, so your co-operation in this is much appreciated. Should a parent wish to change groups or withdraw their child, this can be done through a letter to Administration, informing us of your wishes in writing.
A copy of programs taught is available at the school for parental perusal.
Currently, Gowrie State School does not have access to a Chaplaincy service
Any parents or carers wishing to obtain more detailed information about the religious or other instruction, should see the Administration office.
