Our School

Gowrie State School is situated between Toowoomba and Oakey, just off the Warrego highway. Students come from the surrounding area, including the western suburbs of Toowoomba. Established in 1878 it continues to be well respected across all sectors of education and the wider community for maintaining a consistent approach to academic, sporting and emerging cultural excellence. Our staff employ a shared leadership approach to running our school. Based on staff expertise, program managers are appointed to administer and develop curriculum areas across the school. Collaborative approaches are taken to ensure staff and student needs are prioritised in an effort to develop capacity in staff and improved learning outcomes in students.

Ownership of school programs contributes to a growing sense of pride in our school. A co-ordinated approach to developing curriculum resources and catering for students with identified learning needs has led to improved academic results. We are proud of our staff achievements with our students. Our motto 'Dignity in work and play' captures our commitment to an education that requires self responsibility.

The 5 values of respect, resilience, relationships, responsibility and rigour empower our staff to make a difference for students. These are taken from the 'You can do it!' (YCDI!), which drives our emotional and well being framework. Student leaders run all of our assemblies and developing their leadership skills by presenting “special assemblies” such as Anzac Day, Christmas assembly and the YCDI! assembly.

Our school also offers outside of school hours care in addition to the educational services between 8.50 am and 3.00 pm. Our facilities are regularly hired by community groups and we host the 'Small School Academic Challenges and Small Schools’ sports carnivals each term, when schools with populations under 200 compete with other schools unable to participate in regular inter-school sport.
