School excursions allow students to participate in off-site activities that can enhance their learning and development. Excursions vary in terms of the number of students involved, duration of the planned activity, and venue/s where they are to occur. They may include both regular activities and one-off activities that occur during school hours, or overnight (e.g. camps).
Excursions
Excursions are usually one full school day or less. Gowrie State School aims for each class to have one excursion per year, though this may vary according to curriculum needs. Excursion enable teachers to have a shared activity on which to base learning experiences.
Incursions
Incursions are where providers are invited into the school to deliver a program of instruction. Incursions are co-curriculum experiences that apply curriculum learnings into a broader context. They often also provide instruction in the Cross-Curriculum and General Capabilities of the Australian Curriculum. The school organises for 4 parent-paid incursions per year that address a variety of curriculum areas. Other incursions are provided free of charge or are school paid.
Camps
School camping experiences often provide students with their first experience away from home for the night. A camp is defined as any activity that involves at least one night’s accommodation. Camping occurs every second year, due to cost. The school endeavours to provide an overnight experience for year 3 and 4, and a 2 - 4 night camp for students in year 5 and 6.
Please be advised, that school camping experiences relies on staff availability. All excursion and camps are approved by the principal and the P&C.
