Being at school every day counts. If your child is absent one day per week, this quickly adds up to two months of missed school in a year.
Every day counts is an initiative aiming to improve attendance at school. The initiative promotes four key messages:
- all children should be enrolled at school and attend on every school day
- schools should monitor, communicate and implement strategies to improve regular school attendance
- truanting can place a student in unsafe situations and impact on their future employability and life choices
- attendance at school is the responsibility of everyone in the community.
Absences:
Learning happens 5 days a week. It is a legal requirement that parents let the school know if their child is going to be absent. This can be done by leaving a message on the 24/7 student absence line (07 46986860), by letting the office know via phone call or email, or through the Q-Parents App. Unexplained student absences will be followed up via phone call or SMS to parents each day.
Early Departure and Late Arrivals:
The teaching day starts promptly at 8:50am, so please ensure that your child is at school before then. Late arrivals and need to enter through Administration to collect a late slip. Likewise, parents who are collecting their children early need to inform administration and sign them out.
Exemption from compulsory schooling information
When a student is absent, or plans to be absent for more than 10 consecutive days for any reason, the parent must comply with their obligations in respect to compulsory schooling or compulsory participation by either:
- seeking an exemption from their obligation, or
- by negotiating with the principal to make an alteration to a student's educational program; or by seeking to arrange a flexible arrangement for the student.
Please view the Information Sheet for Parents and Students. If your child is going to be away for more than 10 consecutive days, we ask that parents please complete the Student Exemption Form prior to the absence and return the form to the office.
